About the event
August 17 from 8:30 am – 10:30 am at 250 Rudy Chase Drive, Glenville, NY 12302 (off Route 50). Enjoy an assortment of pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice, coffee, tea, fruit and more. The breakfast is open to the public.
At 10 am, Lecturer and Adjunct Professor in nanoscience at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Albany, Jim Lloyd will talk about his 1986 re-enactment of Cal Rogers first flight in a Wright Brothers Model EX Pusher biplane in 1911 that became the first aircraft to fly coast-to-coast across the U.S. The "Vin-Fiz" as it was called was so named after its sponsor Amour's new grape soft drink, "Vin Fiz". Lloyd will talk about his flight in 1986 following Cal Rogers flight path across the US in a similar Wright bi-plane (Cal Rogers plane is in the Smithsonian). Following Jim's talk, his replica "Vin Fiz" biplane, which was restored by ESAM, will be on display in the hangar. Jim will answer any questions for those interested at the display site. An interesting tidbit: people he met at various stops across the USA, signed his plane!
Fly-In if you would like. Pilots: Tower Frequency 121.3; Ground 121.9. Land at Schenectady County Airport and taxi to Richmor Aviation North. Tell them you are going to ESAM.
